Freezer | Freezers are processing equipment designed for the freezing of product. Freezers can use many different types of freezing media such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, or specialized refrigerants. Freezers can also be batch or continuous. Batch freezers take a certain amount (batch) of product and process it for a certain amount of time. Once the product is processed, the batch is removed from the freezer and another batch can be placed in the freezer. Continuous freezers move the product through the freezer so that many pieces of product are being processed at the same time, but each piece is at a different stage of processing. Continuous freezers discharge product at a steady (continuous) rate. Spiral freezers and tunnel freezers are continuous freezers. Box freezers are batch freezers. Plate freezers can be either continuous or batch. |
