Sealer Tray | Tray sealer equipment is designed to take in a tray of product and seal the product within the tray with a plastic film. The plastic film is heat sealed to the rim or lip of the tray creating an airtight seal. Tray sealer machines can be designed with different levels of automation, and with different functionalities - including vacuum sealing and modified atmosphere sealing (MAP). Tray sealer equipment will take a tray of product and draw a length of film over the opening of the tray. A heated die that has been specifically designed for that tray size and shape contacts the film and the rim of the tray and heat seals the film to the rim of the tray. The various operations can be performed manually or automatically depending on the design of the tray sealer. Tray sealer equipment can also draw a vacuum within the tray or flush the tray with an inert gas (modified atmosphere packaging). Vacuum tray sealers draw a vacuum inside the tray prior to sealing the tray with film. The vacuum is maintained within the tray while the machine seals the film, so that the product is sealed within a vacuum. Modified atmosphere tray sealer machines pump an inert gas, such as nitrogen, into the tray. Because the gas is heavier than air, it displaces the air in the tray. The tray is then sealed with the inert gas filling the “empty” space in the package. This process is often referred to as a gas flush. |
